They’ve moved into a new home, and you’ve finally been invited over. Yes, you could swing by the bottle-o on your way in, and pick up a nice bottle of champagne or wine. Or, you could be a little more creative with one of these housewarming gift ideas I’m sure they’ll love.
Fancy hand wash
Nothing says ‘adult’ more than a fancy bottle of hand wash in the bathroom or kitchen. When you’ve gone to the effort of moving into a new place, you don’t want a run of the mill bottle of Palmolive to adorn your sink. You want something beautifully scented with gorgeous packaging to match. We love Bondi Wash and SKINTRADE at Gift Boss, but AESOP is another popular brand that looks good in any bathroom or kitchen.
Funny tea towels
Add some personality to their kitchen with a funny tea towel that they wouldn’t have bought for themselves. We love giving fun tea towels as gifts, as the reception is always positive and they make for a very practical present too. We feature a number of unique Blue Q tea towels in our gift hampers, but you can also find plenty of great designs on Etsy.
Quirky bottle opener
I remember buying a metal fish-shaped antique bottle opener at a New York flea market once for my dad. On the way home to Australia, I accidentally packed it into my carry-on luggage. So, at each security stop at JFK, LAX and Sydney Airport, the x-ray would go off, airport staff would stare at the odd metal thing for a while, and then they would motion me over for a search. Well, needless to say, that bottle opener lost a bit of its shine after that, but a novelty bottle opener still makes for a great gift idea. I love this lobster bottle opener from Sunnylife that a friend once gave me as a thank you gift.
Welcome mat
Every new home, whether it’s a house, apartment, caravan or houseboat, needs a welcome mat. There’s a huge array of designs these days, from bold, funky prints, to classic sayings, to funny quotes with attitude. You can also find different shapes and sizes to make your present stand out, and the bonus is that they’ll see your gift every time they arrive home.
Fun board game
If you’re like me, you’ll love playing board games with friends with a drink in hand. A board game makes a great housewarming gift because it essentially guarantees you future invitations to their home to play the game, and possibly even a home cooked meal. For a more ‘adult’ game, we love our Cards of Humanity – the ‘Party game for horrible people’ – and have had some fun nights playing it with friends. But there are plenty of other board game gift ideas out there to suit all ages and tastes – The Gamesmen have a great selection.
Potted succulent
Pot plants are always a great gift idea for a new home, but if your friend doesn’t have much of a green thumb, then a potted succulent is the way to go. Succulents have been popular for a number of years now, and with good reason. They look great, come in so many varieties and are difficult to kill, provided you don’t overwater them (speaking from experience!) and can place them somewhere with some natural light.
Engraved cheeseboard
For our five-year wedding anniversary, my husband bought me a wooden cheeseboard with our wedding date engraved on it. It also has a cute message to do with adventure something something forever something always. How romantic! An engraved cheeseboard would also make a fantastic gift for a housewarming. Google new home quotes for inspiration, or you could simply just put their names on it.
Stylish vase
If you’ve ever hosted a housewarming party, you’re guaranteed to receive at least one bunch of flowers. Then comes the hunt in the back of the cupboard for a suitable vase to put the flowers in, and some people just don’t have these on hand. The solution is to gift them a vase (flowers optional) and they’ll appreciate the practical and stylish gift idea. We lust after Jones & Co vases on a regular basis.
Cleaning service voucher
There’s something about moving into a new home that makes you excited to keep it clean. Then a few months pass and the novelty well and truly wears off. What about giving the new homeowners a gift voucher for a cleaning service such as Maid to Clean in Melbourne? In their words “In a world where people are happier when they have more time, what better present or treat for friends/family than a gift card towards their housework? Give somebody back their time and they’ll thank you forever!” Sounds good to me!
Gift Boss gift hamper
Obviously, the best gift idea you can give is a Gift Boss gift hamper! Especially if you’re not able to visit the new home in person, then sending a gift hamper with some stylish and functional gift items is a brilliant solution. We have a number of gift hampers suitable for new homes that include gifts such as hand wash, candles, eco-friendly dish brushes and beeswax wraps, hand towels, champagne and sweet treats.
If you need help choosing the right gift hamper for your gift recipient, you can email us at hello@giftboss.com.au. We can also custom make something to suit, and ensure the perfect Congratulations message is written on the gift card as well.
Happy gifting!
